Air Conditioner Refrigerant Recharging in Cleveland, OH

A customer called us complaining that his home felt like a sauna because his air conditioner wasn’t working properly. He wanted service as quickly as we could provide it. He said the unit was between 12 and 15 years old and had been recharged two years earlier.

When we arrived, we first checked to make sure that the air filter, blower wheel, condenser coil and evaporator coil were clean and working properly. If any of these components are dirty, an air conditioner can act as though it needs refrigerant when it actually does not. Those areas were clean so we recharged his system with R-22 refrigerant. This is an ozone-depleting chemical that is being phased out of use in new units. However, it is still legal to use in older models.

Air Conditioner System Needs Service in Ravenna, OH

A lady called us to report a problem with her air conditioner that was, she estimated, between 8 and 12 years old. She said the system was blowing air but that the air was not cold.

There are many reasons why this takes place. You could simply have a clogged filter, or your outside condenser coils could be clogged with debris. This problem could also be caused by an incorrectly wired thermostat, or a thermostat that needs new batteries. Or, there could be a blown fuse controlling the inside fan blower. More extensive potential problems that cause this problem include low refrigerant, a malfunctioning compressor, or a problem with the wiring in the outside exhaust fan. While you can easily replace a filter or clear your coils, most of the other causes will need to be fixed by a professional.

Air Conditioner Inside Unit Leaking in Cleveland, OH

Anytime you notice water pooling around the inside unit of your air conditioner you need to have it checked immediately. Sometimes the problem is minor. It could simply be because the insulation around the indoor evaporator coil, which sweats during cooling mode, is missing. You should be able to find insulation at your local hardware retailer.

There are other times that the coil will ice up and water will cover the floor when the ice melts. If you have a coil that freezes due to a malfunction you’ll need to call a professional with Arco. You’ll also need a technician if the cause is a cracked condensate pan or broken fittings.
